Project Background
I produced this alternative book cover for my Typography course. I physically designed the title out of Kool Aid powder and mixed liquid.
Inspiration
I took inspiration from the original cover's dark tones to match the dark and serious nature of Layton's experience. Though, I wanted to focus on iconic imagery associated with the People's Temple and Jonestown, so I decided to play around with some Kool-Aid.
Process
Doing this without a stencil was not the smartest way to do this. Though, I really got to get my hands dirty and try to adhere to my inspiration font: Tangier.
The title before and after I edited it in Photoshop. I had a tough time deciding if I should keep the glare in the Kool-Aid liquid in the final image or eliminate it in post, and I'm glad I kept it! Also seeing how much to edit the words I already made out of the powder was a slippery slope.
